Dr Pretty Basra is the owner and consultant optometrist at Edwards & Walker Opticians. She is one the most respected optometrists in her profession, having 3x been recognised as one of the top 5 optometrists in the UK at the National Optician Awards in 2017, 2020 and 2024.

With a career spanning over 20 years, and having previously worked at the prestigious Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham, Pretty took over Edwards & Walker Opticians in Doncaster in 2015, together with her husband Pete.
Since then, they’ve both strived to create an optician’s experience for their patients that is better than anywhere else in Doncaster or the surrounding areas. Pretty is fiercely loyal to ensuring patients get the best eye care possible (which is why she is constantly enhancing her skills above and beyond the norm) and also making sure Edwards & Walker remains wholly independent and community-focused, rather than just becoming another corporate high street opticians.
Pretty went through her own trauma at a young age with her vision – which ignited her passion for eye care – and means she understands exactly what patients go through when they come for their appointments. From then on, she’s overcome every obstacle imaginable to transform Edwards & Walker into one of the best opticians in South Yorkshire, and a place her patients come back to time and again.

“I’ve always wanted to be an optometrist from a very young age. My own experiences with vision were quite traumatic when I was young so I knew this is what I wanted to help others with as I got older. It’s why I’m so passionate about eyes because I truly believe everyone should have the chance to see the best they can see.”
